Vengeance is not what Christianity is about. We are supposed to forgive
those who trespass against us, not feel hatred and enmity for them. Therefore why are Americans so dead set on long incarcerations with absolutely no chance at parole? Recently a Governor pardoned some convicted criminals at the end of his term. He saw fit to do this after many of these individuals had spent years in prison reflecting on what they had done. He had taken time to personally get to know some of these individuals and felt that they deserved a second chance. Some had found religion in that time and asked for and received forgiveness from God. Yet those that prosecuted these people are outraged and so is the public. Do we attend Church on Sunday and just pretend to forgive or do we actually forgive? It is much harder to say that we are going to forgive someone, then actually following through with it. Forgiving someone for a crime they have committed or wrong they have done is difficult. Forgiving does not mean that we have to forget the wrong they did. Yet forgiving is what Christ has done for us, don't we owe others the same. |
